Students took a ‘byte’ out of the world of computing at our recent event. Around 60 S5 and S6 students from Ellon Academy, Harlaw Academy, Kincorth Academy, Bridge of Don Acedemy, Hazlehead Academy and Aberdeen Grammar School attended a day to get an insight into the technology here at the School of Computing Science and Digital Media, with pupils quizzing our IT professionals, RGU graduates and current students.
During the visit, the students learned about the undergraduate courses on offer, practised networking skills and took part in a tour of our new Riverside East building an computing facilities. Also in attendance were representatives from six Aberdeen based companies, including Atlas, BT Engage, Codify, Dynamic Edge, Ferguson Group and Talisman Sinopec Energy UK ltd.
Professor Ian Allison commented – “It was a fantastic day with a real sense of engagement from all the pupils who came along, and I hope that the students went away informed and inspired by what our current students and graduates and industry insiders had to say.”
Cults Academy pupil Timothy Key said – “I know that computing is a sector I want to go into and the event helped to make things clear about what it might be like to study and pursue it as a career”.
