Introduction from the Health and Safety Coordinator .

In these pages I have tried to incorporate some of the information you may need to know upon starting in the school with regards to support and safety. It does go on a bit but please do look at it.

In my role as Health and Safety co-ordinator I, along with the Head of School put together the Safety Plan. One of the entries in that plan is to ensure that members of staff are aware of Health and Safety in the School and in RGU.

So what does a Health and Safety coordinator do?

There are many different roles of health and management staff in the university. One of those roles is that of the school or departmental Health and Safety Coordinator.

  • Coordinators should be available for giving basic safety advice for their area. Anything they are not aware of will be escalated to the Occupational Health and Safety Office.
  • Coordinators should be able to train individual members of staff and students the local issues regarding health and safety.
  • Coordinators should be well versed in the activities being carried out in their area.

Management with help from coordinators and specialists lay down a health and safety policy. When dealing with health and safety issues though common sense is no substitute for well thought out and safe working practices. It then falls to the Coordinator to implement this policy.
