Research

Computing research at RGU develops innovative computing technologies that are highly relevant and used in practice across a range of applications. Our research falls into four primary groupings:

  • Knowledge-Based Systems — with case based reasoning, constraints, and knowledge discovery from text as principal research topics.
  • Information Systems — with research expertise in user-centred information retrieval, learning technologies and business information systems.
  • Computational Intelligence — with a research focus on evolutionary algorithms, stochastic learning, neural networks, and inductive logic programming.
  • Cognitive Engineering — with a research emphasis on visualisation, graphics, video communication and visual interaction.

We are members of two research pooling partnerships:

  • Computational Systems Joint Research Institute of the Northern Research Partnership (NRP)with Aberdeen and Dundee
  • Scottish Informatics and Computer Science Alliance (SICSA) of the ten leading departments of Computer Science across Scotland
