SmartCAT Case Authoring Tool for SmartHouse Installations

SmartHouse technology comprises devices that help people with disabilities to retain a level of independence within their homes. SmartHouse problem-solving experiences are stored as textual reports. Our aim is to create a Case-Based Reasoning system that designs SmartHouse installations to meet a users needs caused by disabilities or impairments by reusing SmartHouse solutions for people with similar circumstances. Our research builds a case authoring tool that acquires knowledge from the SmartHouse textual reports and creates structured knowledge-rich cases representing the circumstances of the person and the SmartHouse installation. The tool uses Wordnet and Google for synonym mapping to standardise the text, Latent Semantic Indexing to extract key topics and phrases, and Formal Concept Analysis to structure the cases. CBR retrieval using the SmartCAT cases outperforms Lucene retrieval on the textual documents using the traditional vector-space representation or our SmartCAT key phrase representation.   [More]
