Expert update is the magazine of the BCS-SGAI (formerly BCS-SGES). Its mission is to foster the aims and objectives of the group by publishing news, conference reports, book reviews, conference announcements, calls for papers and articles on subjects of interest to the members. Expert update is sent free of charge to all SGES members and to some 120 selected scientific libraries in the UK. (Current & Previous issues, Front cover and, for any one wishing to use them, logos.)

Contributions to Expert Update may be emailed to the editor.
Expert update is currently formatted using Word. Although copy is therefore preferred in Word, we can handle most text formatting packages (e.g. Latex, Word Perfect, Claris Works, etc.). Alternatively contributors may send copy as unformatted text. Figures should be done either directly in Word or included as separate GIFs or JPEGs. If figures cannot be sent as GIFs or JPEGs then most other formats can be handled (e.g. ,ps or .eps, bitmaps, TIFFs, etc). Alternatively, authors may send figures as hard copy which can then be scanned. If, for some reason none of the above is possible then contributors can make whatever special arrangements might be required by contacting the editor.

Conference reports, up to 1000 words, can be in any format however Word contributions are encouraged.
A number of example reports are available. Note that it is not necessary to include images although authors are of course free to do so if they so wish. Figures should be done either directly in Word or included as separate GIFs or JPEGs.
