Research
I am a Computer Scientist with a background in Experimental Cognitive Psychology, Statistical Modelling and Cognitive Science. I lead the Cognitive Engineering Research Group in the School of Computing.
I have long standing collaborations with Dr. Gus Ferguson and Dr. Albert Burger of the Biomedical Informatics Systems Engineering Laboratory (BISEL) at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh. Together we have worked on projects such as genISYS, SCANWeb and XSPAN.
Current research interests include:
- Use of ACT-R for studying human-computer interaction in Healthcare.
- Capturing and representing expert domain knowledge in epidemiology.
- Reliability and validity in measuring usability and learning.
- Role of presence and emotion in applying virtual reality to Healthcare.
Current Projects:
- ACT-R based visual toolkits for user interface design in Healthcare.
- Application of virtual reality to exposure therapy for anxiety and phobias.
