I am a Computer Scientist with a background in Experimental Cognitive Psychology, Statistical Modelling and Cognitive Science. I lead the Cognitive Engineering Research Group in the School of Computing.

I have long standing collaborations with Dr. Gus Ferguson and Dr. Albert Burger of the Biomedical Informatics Systems Engineering Laboratory (BISEL) at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh. Together we have worked on projects such as genISYS, SCANWeb and XSPAN.

Current research interests include:

  • Use of ACT-R for studying human-computer interaction in Healthcare.
  • Capturing and representing expert domain knowledge in epidemiology.
  • Reliability and validity in measuring usability and learning.
  • Role of presence and emotion in applying virtual reality to Healthcare.

Current Projects:

  • ACT-R based visual toolkits for user interface design in Healthcare.
  • Application of virtual reality to exposure therapy for anxiety and phobias.
