Current Interests
I am a member of the
Knowledge-Based Systems research group.
My particular interests lie in the areas of machine learning and
knowledge base refinement.
On the teaching side, I have in the past been involved with teaching
Java, Delphi, Multi-Media and Web Technologies.
I am currently
teaching the relational databases module on the
MSc Computing Software
Technology course, and a search-based AI module for various
undergraduate courses.
I'm also the co-ordinator for MSc Projects
and MSc Projects (online)
Recent History
- 4/97 - 1/01: Research Fellow on the
Krustworks project
at the
School of Computing and
Mathematical Sciences of the
Robert Gordon University.
This project generalised the
KRUST
knowledge refinement tool to produce the Krustworks toolkit.
The toolkit is able to generate individual KrustTools, each
customised to a particular environment and application.
- 9/94 - 3/97: Research Student at the same institution
supervised by
Susan Craw,
and continuing the work on knowledge refinement which I started at Aberdeen University.
This consisted of generalising and improving the
KRUST program and applying it to a tablet formulation expert
system. I completed my
PhD
in February 1998.
- 9/93 - 8/94: Research Fellow
at the
Computing Science Dept of
Aberdeen University , working
on knowledge refinement within the ESPRIT
ViVa project,
and living in
room 215 on the
C floor of the Meston Building)
- 9/86 - 7/93: A member of staff at the
Turing Institute (motto: eadem mutata resurgo) and hence also of
Strathclyde University.
My interests were primarily in machine learning. I also lectured on
Prolog
for the MSc course at Strathclyde.
