My name is Thierry Mamer, I am a research student at the Robert Gordon University (RGU) School of Computing in Aberdeen.

Before I came to RGU I finished my honors degree in Computing Science (Artificial Intelligence) at the University of Aberdeen.

I started to do research for my PhD on a full time basis at the beginning of September 2005. This course is scheduled to last 3 years.

My research is about “Compression measures for biological grammar acquisition”.

I am part of the "Computational Intelligence Group" which carries out research with a primary focus in the three related areas: genetic algorithms; symbolic machine learning; and neural networks.

The project I am part of is "Efficient Biological Grammar Acquisition" , which is concerned with the automatic acquisition of grammars from sets of biological sequences.

My principal supervisor is Dr. John McCall.
A second supervisor is Dr. Chris Bryant who was my principal supervisor up until March 2008 when he left the university.

Research fellow Dr. Daniel Fredouille used to be an additional advisor until he left the university back in 2006.
