Student Placement Showcase – RGU Research – Gergana Aleksandrova

Over the next few weeks we will be talking to some of our students who have recently completed placements with various companies throughout the UK and abroad, to get their thoughts and experiences on what to expect whilst out on placement.

This week we speak to Gergana Aleksandrova who is currently in her fourth (final) year of study Computing (Graphics and Animation)

Duration of experience: 3 months

Q:  What was your key role and responsibilities?
A: Demostrator/Researcher – familiarisation with novel 3D scanning approaches, use and development of bespoke software for processing scans, extraction of data from scans

Q: What did an average days work consist of?
A: Processing scans, bringing issues to discussion as appropriate, meeting with colleagues on daily basis, assisting scan acquisitions

Q: What was the key highlights of your placement?
A: Recognition of potential value + use of data set, gaining professional skills for post-processing 3d scans and extracting measurements

Q: What are your personal thoughts on the placement?
A: It is was really helpful, setting up weekly targets and achieving them through the project and working in a professional environment with Gas and Oil UK.  Receiving  full training on scanning with a 3d software

Q: What would be your advice to other students thinking of doing a placement?
A: Of course you should do it. It’s a great experience!
